Changing Impossible Situations

One of the many things I love about Jesus is His ability to take an impossible situation and change it. The 4 gospels gives us many accounts of His excellent work for people who found themselves in situations of hopelessness and fear. When they called upon Him, He calmed the storm, healed the sick, raised the dead and provided hope where there were none.

Luke 8:26-40 provides one such impossible situation that the Lord intervened in, not because He was called or saw the problem with His eyes. This situation is a God inspired moment and being led by the Spirit, Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes.

Verse 27 said Jesus disembarked the ship, “And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.” The Scriptures go on to tell us in verse 29, that this man “was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.

Here we are faced with an impossible situation for any normal person to handle. The people had done their best, but their best was not good enough, as this demon possessed man was tied up with chains and fetters in the tombs. His home was where dead bodies are buried. He would often break the chains, cut himself with stones and run into the desert, attempting to find peace, but there was no peace for him. The Legion of multitudinous demons gave him no peace, as they tormented him body and soul.

The road of life is plagued with hard and difficult situations. Death, family in trouble, drugs, gang warfare, police brutality, substandard education and violence against children or only some of the issues. Sin has taken us on a path of destruction, and tears stain the faces of many.

There is hope in Jesus Christ to help you out of all your troubles. Jesus said to come to Him all those who are weary and laden with the weight of sin and He will take away those heavy burdens and give you His rest and life.

They gave up on the man possessed by the Legion and confined him to the tombs. Where have “they” confined you to? Who gave up on you? Not God. God loves you (John 3:16) and will make a way for you. Jesus cast the Legion (many demons) out of the man and the man was found “sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind.

Jesus healed him and made his impossible situation right. Jesus can do the same for you if you call upon Him today.
