Rev. Chris Richardson
I was born and raised in New Jersey (Jersey girl that oughta tell ya something!). I was baptized in Embury Methodist Church and nurtured through Sunday School, MYF and church camp at Asbury Methodist Church. It was at camp that I decided following Jesus was a good thing and so I've been blessed with the incredible journey that now places me in the midst of this wonderful congregation!
My first 2 years of college were at a Methodist school in Kentucky where the Appalachian culture wrapped itself around my heart in a way that has never left me. I finished college at the University of Colorado in Denver and graduated with a Masters of Divinity degree from The Iliff School of Theology. In 1982, I was ordained elder in The Rocky Mountain Conference. I have served the following United Methodist churches: Cheraw, Trinity in Pueblo, Christ in Sterling, Salida, Hotchkiss, and Crawford. I retired in 2008 and moved back to Pueblo.
My call to ministry evolved over many years. In seminary, we discerned our "model for ministry" with much prayer, study and community input. Compassionate prophet is my model. I do not believe God calls us to the comfortable pew, but rather to lives of action for the healing and transformation of the world to a better, more peaceful, charitable and just way of life. Our communities of faith teach, support, pray, encourage and renew us in this life of faith. I am honored to be a part of this equipping.
I am passionate about God's justice about preaching, teaching and loving all of God's many human expressions within our church walls and outside them.
I am married to Wilbur, my encouragement and support, who is a retired educator. Together we have a constantly expanding family!
